Exfoliative cytopathology of human lip neoplasm

چکیده
Methodology: In this hospital based case-control study, 22 subjects (11 cases of lip neoplasm and 11 healthy individuals as Control group) were included in this study. Scraped exfoliated cytosmears were collected from the affected site of the lip and smearing was done in the precleaned-coded glass-slides. Two such slides were prepared from each subject. The cytosmears were immediately fixed in aceto-alcohol (1part of glacial acetic acid:3 part of absolute ethyl alcohol) fixative. One set of the slide was stained with Papanicolaou’s stain and the other set wascounter-stained with Giemsa’s Solution for cytopathological analysis. The TNM (TumorNode-Metastasis) System for staging of lip cancer formulated by American Joint Committee for Cancer (AJCC) Staging and End Results Reporting-2010 was followed.

Keratinized Tadpole Cells in Human Oral Neoplasm: A Cytodiagnostic Approach
Background: Use of exfoliative cytology and cyto-analysis is a useful early diagnostic method for epithelial atypia and for human oral neoplasm. A rare occurrence of cytological atypia appeared to be anuran tadpole larva, named as keratinized tadpole cell (KTC) is analyzed cytomorphometrically with a cytodiagnostic approach. Materials and Methods: In a casecontrol study, exfoliated scraped cyto...

Exfoliative cytopathology (often referred to as non-gynaecological cytology) is an important part of the workload of all diagnostic pathology departments. It clearly has a role in the diagnosis of neoplastic disease but its role in establishing non-neoplastic diagnoses should also be recognised. Ancillary tests may be required to establish a definitive diagnosis. Clinical and scientific teamwor...

INTRODUCTION Actinic cheilitis (AC) is considered to be a pre-malignant lesion or an incipient and superficial form of lip squamous cell carcinoma. It is commonly found in individuals whose occupational activities are related to chronic sun exposure and the definitive diagnosis is performed with biopsy. Although Exfoliative cytology has been used as a screening procedure to evaluate cancer of t...

Although the sensitivity of exfoliative cytopathology in the diagnosis of bronchogenic carcinoma has been reported to be as low as 44 per cent,' most cytologists find malignant cells in the sputum or bronchial aspirates from three of every four patients with lung cancer, more or less.24 Most reports contain selected series of cases, since patients who have not had cytologic examinations usually...

Exfoliative and aspiration cytologies play a major role in the management of patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection. Common cytology samples include cervicovaginal and anal Papanicolaou tests, fine needle aspirations, respiratory specimens, body fluids, Tzanck preparations, and touch preparations from brain specimens. While the cytopathologists need to be aware of specific infecti...
